Treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome may include both surgical and nonsurgical methods. Among the initial steps in treating the condition are avoiding activities that may worsen symptoms, resting the affected hand and wrist for at least two weeks, and using cool ice packs.
A few nonsurgical treatment methods that may be used include medications, exercise, and alternative therapies (such as acupuncture or chiropractic care). The other common carpal tunnel treatment is surgery. After surgery, patients should undergo physical therapy in order to restore wrist strength.
