Treatment for
carpal tunnel syndrome should begin as early as possible, under a doctor's direction, to help prevent permanent nerve damage. Treatments may include nonsurgical options such as rest, medications, exercise, and alternative therapies (including acupuncture or
chiropractic care).
Two different types of surgery may be used to treat carpal tunnel syndrome: open release and endoscopic surgery. Following treatment, recurrence of carpal tunnel syndrome is rare. Surgery is typically recommended when more conservative measures, such as rest and splinting, are not successful.
