To complete the open carpal tunnel release, the wound will be thoroughly cleaned, and the skin will be closed with stitches. A bandage and splint are then placed on the hand and forearm. The splint is used to prevent excessive movement of the wrist, to protect the surgical site, and to promote healing. The splint is bulky and will cover your hand, wrist, and forearm.
At the end of the open carpal tunnel release, you will be awakened while still in the operating room and then transported to the recovery room.
